Cullowhee, NC The Western Carolina Women’s Golf Returns to action in its final tune-up before the Southern Conference Championship, traveling to Morganton for the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate, hosted by mountain-Rival Appalachian State at the par-72, 5,810-yard Mimosa Hills Golf Club. This year, the event will play out at 54 holes including 36-holes of continuous play on Monday, April 4 followed by the final 18 holes on Tuesday, April 5.
The tournament at Mimosa Hills was originally co-founded by mountain rivals Western Carolina and App State with the Mountaineers continuing to administer the event at the foothills course. WCU Returns to the event for the first time since 2019, finishing eighth in the then 36-hole event.
In addition to the Catamounts and the host Mountaineers, the 12-team field includes fellow Southern Conference foes in The Citadel and Wofford. Also slated to compete are Golfers from Elon, Gardner-Webb, Georgia Southern, Jacksonville State, NC Central, Presbyterian, USC Upstate, and Winthrop.
WCU enters its regular-season finale sixth among the teams in the field according to the latest Women’s GolfStat rankings. The Catamounts have also faced two of the teams – App State and Elon – in head-to-head matchplay this season.
Each of Western Carolina’s six golfers will be in action in the two-day tournament, led by freshman Elizabeth Lohbauer as the No. 1 seed. A product of Venice, Fla., Lohbauer enters the week ranked 13th in the Southern Conference individual scoring rankings – third among freshmen – with a team-best average of 74.89. She is flanked by senior Madison Isaacson (76.06) who Ranks 19th in the conference rankings.
Junior Victory Ladd enters the tournament as WCU’s No. 3 seed, followed by freshman Kaitlyn Wingnean and sophomore Trinity Ahing rounding out the Catamount scoring five. Ahing was WCU’s second-best finisher at the Bama Beach Bash back March 20-21. Redshirt freshman Kayleigh Baker will compete for the individual Championship unattached.
