Women’s Golf Concludes Season is the Final Day of the C-USA Championships

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – The Marshall Women’s golf team’s 2021-22 season came to a close on Wednesday after the third round of the Conference USA Championships, played on the Championship Course at PGA National. Fifth-year senior Stormy Randazzo led the team tied for 14th overall.

The Thundering Herd finished 11th.

“Not how we wanted the week to go,” Herd head Coach Brooke Burkhammer said. “It was a grind every day to post a score. They fought hard and never gave up. I want to thank our seniors for their leadership during their time here with us. I’m excited to see them do great things in the future! Now we finish the semester strong academically like we always do. ”

Randazzo finishes her season and her career at Marshall with three-straight top-15 finishes. The Rowlett, Texas, native was tied for 11th at the Golfweek AGT Intercollegiate (March 28-30) and the Colonel Classic (April 4-5). Randazzo finished with one birdie in the third round and four total in the tournament. She is a five-time member of the Conference U.S. Commissioner’s Honor Roll and a three-time WGCA All-American Scholar Athlete. Randazzo competed in 41 events during her time with the Herd recording five top-10 finishes and 14 in the top 20.

Freshman Emily McLatchey improved her score by four strokes in the third round and moved up six spots on the Leaderboard to finish 23rd. She shot par or better on 11-of-18 holes. Fellow freshman Katie Potter had the biggest improvement on day three, dropping her score by five strokes and jumping up 19 spots to get into the top half of the field. Potter shot par or better on 14-of-18 holes.

Senior Jackie Schmidt finished the day with one birdie. She had two birdies and one eagle this week. Schmidt’s best finish of the season came at the Butler Fall Invitational (Oct. 4-5) tying for 12th. Her best round of the season was a 1-under 71 in the final round of the Golfweek AGT Intercollegiate. Schmidt is a four-time member of the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll and a two-time WGCA All-American Scholar Athlete. The Galt, California, native has competed in 27 events during her Marshall career with one top 10 finish and six in the top 20.

Junior Makena Rauch moved up five spots on the Leaderboard on Wednesday.

North Texas won its second-straight title. The 44th-ranked Mean Green battled back to defeat No. 49 UTSA by one stroke. North Texas trailed the Roadrunners by two shots going into the third round. The Mean Green finished three-strokes better than UTSA with a 320 team score to the Roadrunners 323.

Letizia Bagnoli stayed atop the Leaderboard throughout the tournament. The 68th-ranked player in the country earned individual medalist honors with a 7-stroke lead over Camryn Carreon of UTSA.
