Tywone Malone plays baseball, Ole Miss D-Line gets better without him

OXFORD – The only top-100 recruit to sign with Ole Miss football in the Lane Kiffin era is also a player who has taken some of the fewest practice reps on roster.

Defensive lineman Tywone Malone has the potential to be a dominant player on the Rebels’ defense. At 6-foot-4 and 315 pounds, Malone is a hulking presence with an athleticism and nimbleness that make him a pass rushing threat who can split double teams and live in opposing backfields. Out of high school, he was the No. 63 player in the 247Sports Composite rankings and the No. 1 recruit in New Jersey.

But Malone’s freshman season at Ole Miss did not match his hype. He did not arrive in Oxford until the summer and had to spend most of the summer and fall rehabbing a knee injury. He only played in one game in 2021, recording three tackles and a sack in the second half of a blowout win against Austin Peay.
