Tuition Mates, Badminton Buddies – One Teen Found Dead In Park, Other Now Murder Suspect | Ghaziabad News

Ghaziabad: Police on Friday slapped murder charges on a 15-year-old boy as they investigated the death of a teenager, a year younger to the suspect, whose body was found at a park in Kaushambi on Thursday night.
The two were mates at tuition class and badminton buddies, according to the victim’s father Arvind Kumar Sharma, who allegedly the 15-year-old had come to their house at 7pm on Thursday evening and called his son out to play, as they would usually do. “On school days, they would play from 7pm onwards and my son Himank would normally return by 8.30pm,” Arvind said.
According to the FIR, the two boys went to play at a park behind Radisson Hotel in Kaushambi. The 15-year-old, who is believed to have met Himank at a tuition class in 2020, is being quizzed, police said. His father, meanwhile, claimed the teenager was innocent and couldn’t have been with Himank since he was at a tuition class on Thursday evening. Himank was in the ninth standard. The accused is in Class 10. They study in different schools.
“I have provided CCTV footage of the tuition class and the tutor also gave his statement in favor of my son. But the police are not ready to leave him. My son has been in police custody since 10pm on Thursday. Cops also slapped my son, ”he alleged.
On Thursday evening, Himank’s parents got worried when he didn’t return home as usual at 8.30pm. His mother Deepika, who works with an MNC, went to look for him. She reached the park and got to know that Himank had been beaten up badly. According to the FIR, “she found Himank lying on the ground, and she rushed him to a hospital where the doctors declared him dead.”
Arvind, who runs a construction company, said, “Both of them became friends during tuition classes. They were best friends and the boy used to come to our home as well. We don’t know why he killed my son, but he killed my son. “
Vinay Verma, the tutor, said Himank and the 15-year-old boy had joined his classes in July 2020. In October that year, the older boy’s parents changed his tuition classes while Himank continued to take lessons from Vinay. “Around 9pm on Thursday, Himank’s mother called me and told me that he was lying in a park with injuries. I called an ambulance and reached the hospital immediately, ”he said.
So far, there is no concrete evidence against the 15-year-old, police said. “We have checked several CCTV videos but Himank was seen alone while going into the park. He received injuries to his legs, hands and head, ”said Abhay Kumar Mishra, circle officer, Indirapuram. The autopsy report revealed the cause of death to be ante-mortem injuries, indicating Himank was violently thrashed. The boy had injuries in both the hands, legs, near the left eye, cheeks and the head, according to the report.
A senior police officer said three others were spotted on CCTV footage from near the park and had been detained for questioning.
