Three years later, Bridgeport hasn’t given up on a downtown ice rink

BRIDGEPORT – Three-and-a-half years after Mayor Joe Ganim announced a “premiere hockey and ice skating training facility” would be built on public land downtown, City Hall is not quite willing to abandon the so-far dormant $ 12 million dollar proposal .

“When COVID came the negotiations or the discussion kind of broke off,” Thomas Gill, the city’s chief economic development chief, said this week.

But, Gill continued, at this stage of the pandemic coronavirus the out-of-town development partners, who dubbed themselves Park City Ice Palace, “keep giving indications that they do (want to proceed) and they’re looking at things.”
