Sindhu, Srikanth & Saina in 2nd round
Badminton Asia Championship LIVE: World No.7 PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth and Saina Nehwal are the only remaining Indians in fray in the Asian Badminton Championships singles. Fourth seed Sindhu takes on Singapore’s Jaslyn Hooi while Saina Nehwal will be up against China’s Wang Zhiyi. Meanwhile Srikanth will face China’s Weng Hongyang.

PV Sindhu [IND] vs Jaslyn Hooi [SIN]
World No.7 PV Sindhu was pushed to the hilt in her first round by Chinese Taipei’s Pai Yu Po. Sindhu lost the first set and was staring defeat after trailing the second set 17-20. She however made a terrific comeback to win the set 27-25 and then thwarted her opponent in the third set 21-9. She will look for a much better performance in her upcoming contest.
Meanwhie Jaslyn Hooi enters the contest after defeating South Korea’s Lee Seo-jin 21-18, 21-10 in straight sets. Hooi faced two first round exits this year at the Korea Open and Korea Masters but has looked in good touch in the previous game and will hope to put a strong show against Sindhu. Sindhu however enters the match as the favorite.

Saina Nehwal [IND] vs Wang Zhiyi [CHN]
2012 Olympic Bronze medallist, who was omitted from India’s squads for Thomas & Uber Cup, as well as Asian Games and Commonwealth Games won India’s first match in singles at the Asian Championships after defeating South Korea’s Sim Yu-jin 21-15, 17-21 , 21-13.
Meanwhile, Wang Zhiyi clinched an upset victory over Thailand’s seventh seed Busanan Ongbumrangphan in the first round by defeating her 12-21, 21-15, 21-15. Both Saina and Wang Zhi Yi will be fencing each other for the second time in their career. They last met in the New Zealand Open in 2019 with the Chinese winning the contest.

Kidambi Srikanth [IND] vs Weng Hongyang [CHN]
Kidambi Srikanth will take on Chinese Qualifier Weng Hongyang in the second round of the Asiann Championships. Srikanth breezed past Malaysia’s Ng Tze Yong 22-21, 21-15 in the first round. Srikanth is yet to win his first title this year and the seventh seed looks to finally end his title drought.
Meanwhile, Weng Hong Yang defeated Singapore’s Jason Teh 22-20, 21-17 in the first round to set up clash with Srikanth. This will be the first meeting between both the players.
