ADRIAN – Siena Heights Women’s golf team competed in the Adrian’s spring invite at the Hills of Lenawee and took first overall on Thursday.
The Saints shot a 344, besting Ohio Northern by one shot while the host Bulldogs shot a 349.
Skylar Whitman shot a 78 and was the overall medalist while Chelsea Kovoch shot an 83 and Bethany Nowak a shot an 89. Megan Paczas shot a 94 to round SHU’s score.
Adrian was led by Taylor Ross and Lauren Reed as the duo each shot an 86 while Ashlynn Challand shot an 88 and Riley Kleck and Olivia Ohmer each shot an 89.
TRACK AND FIELD
Adrian at Siena Heights Don Kleinow Invite: At Adrian, the Saints defended their home track as both the men and women won the Don Kleinow Memorial Invite.
The men posted a score of 94 while the women scored 92 in their wins. Adrian College men took third at 46 while the women did not place.
SHU was strong in the Relays as the women won the 4×100 (50.58) and 4×400 (4: 10.43). Elissa Blackmon-Todd, Chelsea Short (Madison), McKenna Russell (Onsted) and Faith Jackson won the 4×100 while Tiffani Larder and Jenna Salek joined Short and Russell to win the 4×400.
Samantha Nowell added a win for the women in the pole vault (3.35-meters).
The men got a win in the 4×100 with Davion Curry, Noah Cunningham, Cherrard Cohen and Matthew Gipple finishing in 43.44. Gipple also won the long jump (7.16) while Timothy Werner won the pole vault (4.4), Jacob Harberts won the 1,500 (4: 18.61) and Jacob Sand won the 400 hurdles (58.08).
The Bulldogs got wins from Derek Plitt in the 100 (10.65) and the 200 (21.39). The men’s 4×100 team of Caleb Ellis, Nolan Breithaupt, Asher Cousino and Plitt won as well at 42.96.
Adrian 9, Olivet 0; At Adrian, the Bulldogs swept the Comets to win in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play and improve to 8-9 overall and 3-3 in MIAA play.
Jules Johnson and Elizabeth Himebauch won at No. 1 doubles and Liv Depies and Maddison Wagner at No. 2 each won, 8-1, while Vasiliki Gargasoulas and Jamie Nicholls won at No. 3, 8-0.
Johnson won at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1, while Gargasoulas took No. 2, 6-2, 6-3 and Himebauch won at No. 3, 6-0, 6-1. Bethany Posey and Regan Snyder won at No. 4 and No. 5, 6-0, 6-1, while Nicholls picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win as well at No. 6.
Olivet at Adrian (DH): At Adrian, the Bulldogs won a pair of MIAA games as they beat the Comets, 11-0 in five innings and 11-1 in five innings.
Natalie Mathers gave up one hit in four innings with four walks and five strikeouts.
Hailey DeChalk led off and went 3-for-3 with a double, RBI and two runs scored. Katie Connolly went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs and Madison Cvengros hit a double as well.
Maggie Leveille went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run while Mackenzie Melody went 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Macee Shang got the win in Game 2 as she went four innings and gave up one unearned run, on two hits, no walks and eight strikeouts.
Connolly went 2-for-2 with a double, four RBIs and two runs scored while Brynn McKay hit a home run and drove in two runs.
DeChalk went 2-for-3 with an RBI while Ava Ferrarell and Lauren McCulligh each went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI. Keira Stampfly went 3-for-3 with an RBI and run score.
Rochester at Siena Heights (DH): At Adrian, the Saints won a pair of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference games with a 5-4, eight innings win before taking Game 2, 7-2.
After tying the game with an Alexis Hirst RBI single in the seventh, Courtnee Chappetta recorded her third hit with a walk-off RBI single.
Abby Fisher (Blissfield) hit a double and went 2-for-4 with an RBI while Sam Hill was 3-for-4, Maddie Herrera was 2-for-5 and Julia Hogston went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Kelsey Uhl tossed all eight innings and none of her four runs were earned while striking out six and allowing six hits.
Jordan Green got the win in Game 2 as she went seven innings and gave up two runs, on six hits, a walk and two strikeouts.
Chappetta went 2-for-4 with a double while Hill was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
