Reactions started pouring in as BJP-AGP alliance sweeps GMC polls: Here’s who said what

Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) registered a landslide victory in the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) polls on Sunday, bagging 58 out of the total 60 wards.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) won one ward each, while the main opposition party Congress drew a blank.

Of the 58 seats, the BJP won 52 wards, including three uncontested candidates, while the AGP secured six wards.

Thanking the people of Guwahati for the massive mandate, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “I bow my head to the people of Guwahati for giving BJP and its allies a historic win of 58/60 wards in the GMC Polls.”

He further said that with this massive mandate, people have reaffirmed their faith in the party’s development journey under the guidance of the Prime Minister. Narendra Modi.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi also thanked the voters of Guwahati for giving a “resounding mandate” to the BJP and congratulated CM Sarma as the trend showed BJP’s victory in the Guwahati Municipal Corporation election.

“Thank you, Guwahati! The people of this lovely city have given a resounding mandate to BJP4Assam to build on the development agenda. They have also blessed the hardwork of the state government under CM Himanta Biswa. My gratitude to every BJP Karyakarta for the hardwork, ”PM Modi tweeted.

In reply, Sarma said, “We are immensely grateful to you Adarniya Pradhan Mantri ji for your good wishes and blessings. This has been a result of your astounding vision and robust development initiatives in the North East. Guwahati is profusely in gratitude. ”

Other BJP leaders also congratulated Sarma on the party’s victory in the municipal election.

Union Minister Kuren Rijiju wrote, “North-East goes with Narendra Modi Ji who cares for them. People of Guwahati show the way again. Congratulations to BJP for the resounding victory under the leadership of dynamic CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Ji. ”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also took to Twitter to congratulate CM Sarma and BJP state president Bhabesh Kalita and other party workers.

BJP national president JP Nadda also expressed gratitude to the people of Guwahati. “My gratitude to the people of Guwahati for the immense faith in our party’s vision. This win is another testament to the undying faith of the people in the able leadership of PM Narendra Modi ji. Many congratulations to CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and to every Karyakarta of Assam BJP, ”Nadda tweeted.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh wrote: “The BJP’s spectacular victory in Guwahati Municipal elections is a testimony of people’s unwavering trust in PM Shri Narendra Modi’s leadership and CM Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma’s commitment to development. Congratulations to Team Himanta and Assam BJP on this significant win. ”

Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the victory is a sign of the growing trust of the public in the idea and vision of PM Modi.

Former Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal also congratulated the Assam BJP unit and alliance partners for sweeping the elections.

AAP also congratulated its candidate Masuma Begum for winning ward number 42 in GMC polls.

Polling in 57 wards out of 60 wards of GMC was held on April 22. The BJP had won the other three wards unopposed. A voter turnout of 52.80 percent was recorded in the elections.

The counting of votes for the GMC election began at Moniram Dewan Trade Center in Guwahati at 8 am.
