Privateer Golf Records Best Conference Tournament Finish Since 2010


NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans Golf program capped off a solid season with their best ever finish at the Southland Championship – tying affiliate member Augusta for third place with a score of 905 following rounds of 299, 308 and 298.

Grayson Gilbert was on fire for most of the third round Burying his sixth career eagle on hole 13 in addition to sinking four birdies on the afternoon. At one point the junior was 4-under-par for the day before finishing with bogeys on two of his last three holes. The Monroe native finished tied for sixth place with a score of 220.

Brady Bennett finished tied for the fifth after rounds of 71, 74, and 74. Bennett’s opening round of 71 was the 12th round below par for him this season – the most by a Privateer since 2010. One of the nation’s leaders in birdies Brady made 12 over his three rounds at Stonebridge Ranch, the second most among the field.

Rounding out the top-25 were Ryan Fulton who finished tied for 20th with a score of 233, and Florian Moosmeier who finished tied for 24th with a score of 235. Fulton’s score was a 21-stroke improvement on his previous attempt in the Southland Championship.

The last time the Privateers finished as high as third place in a conference tournament was at the 2010 Sun Belt Championships – won individually by the Privateers’ Oscar Zetterwall. It was also the first time that the Privateers placed two in the top-10 individually, and four in the top-25 at the Southland Conference Championship and the first time doing it at a conference tournament since 2008.

New Orleans finishes the season with a record of 83-46-1 – good for a .650 winning percentage, their best record since the 2009-2010 season. UNO averaged 295,367, the seventh best average as a team in the past 30 seasons.

Southeastern won the tournament with a score of 892, and the individual champion was Joe Buenfield of UIW who shot a 216.
