Pickleball and golf: Some surprising similarities

I am a golfer and a pickler, and I’ve been wondering about the Parallels – if any – between the two sports.

I was at Roger Dunn Golf Shop a few months ago, and I observed that they were also selling pickleball equipment. When I asked why, the staff said that many golfers were trading in their golf clubs for pickleball paddles. Wow!

I reached out to my colleague Kristin Walla, who is both a golf teacher and a pickleball player.

She made this really common-sense observation: “In both sports, the short game is critical … Chipping and putting in golf, and third balls and dinking in pickleball.”

Ralph Rabago, who is a certified golf, tennis and pickleball instructor, observed that hip turn and shoulder turn were key to both sports.
