Oakboro resident Logan Marker recently had two fundraisers for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Marker, a sophomore at Carolina Christian School in Locust, was selected to the inaugural St. Jude Leadership Society – Charlotte cohort in fall of 2021.
St. Jude Leadership Society features high school students from across the country who share a passion for leadership, service and community. The Society gives members an opportunity to give back through service and leadership by promoting and supporting St. Jude. As part of the Leadership Society, Marker has participated in monthly leadership development sessions with other local students from Charlotte and surrounding areas.
Each of the 25 students involved in the St. Jude Leadership Society – Charlotte cohort have been challenged to raise $ 2,500. The students are encouraged to work to raise money for the kids of St. Jude, and all funds raised help ensure families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food.
Marker first presented her fundraiser to the student body at Carolina Christian School, and worked with the school’s archery team to host a National Archery in the Schools (NASP) Charity Tournament in March. The team members each paid a fee to shoot at the tournament, and spectators paid an entry fee to attend. She raised more than $ 400 at this event.
She also hosted an Open-Mic Night in Oakboro on April 8. She worked with Los Jacubes Family Mexican Restaurant in Oakboro, who donated the use of the Oakboro Music Hall. rBc Music Store of Locust donated and provided the audio equipment and sound for the event. Twelve local entertainers provided music for the evening while patrons had dinner and enjoyed the show. She was able to meet her fundraising goal by raising more than $ 1,300, bringing her total fundraiser to more than $ 3,400.
By meeting her goal, she has been invited to attend the Memphis Experience this summer. The St. Jude Leadership Society Memphis Experience is a retreat in Memphis for SJLS members to dive into the mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital while learning firsthand from a variety of leaders. Members and mentors will come together for sessions on building a brand, leading from every seat, the importance of young leaders in communities and so more.
Marker is appreciative of the community for helping her achieve, and exceed, her fundraising goal. For more information about her fundraiser, visit www.events.stjude.org/loganmarker.
