BOULDER CITY, Nev. The University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men’s golf team finished in eighth place at the Western Athletic Conference Golf Championships on Sunday at Boulder Creek Golf Club.
The Vaqueros posted a final round of 300 as they finished with a three-round score of 888. UTRGV finished ahead of Stephen F. Austin and the State of Chicago in the final standings.
Freshman Juan Luis de Bethencourt Duque led the way for the Vaqueros as he finished tied for 19th with a three-round score of 218 after a final round 77.
Sophomore Sebastian Lundberg and senior Tennoshin Ogawa finished tied for 33rd with three-round scores of 223. Lundberg posted a final round two-over par 74 while Ogawa carded a final round 75.
Sophomore Taj Sutherland finished tied for 37th one shot back from Lundberg and Ogawa with a three-round score of 224. Sutherland tied Lundberg for the team’s best round of the day with a final round of two-over par 74.
Sophomore Leonardo Novella finished in 49th with a three-round score of 234 after posting a final round 80.
Abilene Christian won the team championship with a three-round score of 857 after a final round of 288. Seattle U’s Nathan Cogswell posted a final round of five-under 67 to take home the individual title with a three-round score of 207.
