Men’s Golf Central: Mason Rudolph Championship

The 20th-ranked Tennessee men’s golf team is back in action for its second tournament in one week, keeping it in the Volunteer State with the Mason Rudolph Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends South Course in Franklin, Tennessee.

The Vols are set to play three total rounds — teeing off the weekend with 18 holes on Friday and then 18 holes apiece on Saturday and Sunday.

According to Golfweek’s college rankings, three of the participating teams in the Mason Rudolph Championship are ranked inside the top 20 — all three SEC teams. At No. 20, Tennessee is the third-highest ranked team in the field.

Tennessee competed in the Vanderbilt Legends Collegiate last season in Franklin, but that tournament was contested at the venue’s North course.

The Vols last competed at the South course in 2019, finishing in third place as a team in that year’s Mason Rudolph Championship. Current Vols Hunter Wolcott, Spencer Cross and Tyler Johnson all competed in the event, with Wolcott (T-19th) and Cross (T-21st) recording top-25 finishes.

Tennessee was also scheduled to appear in the Mason Rudolph Championship in 2020 before it was canceled due to COVID.

Spencer Cross

Tennessee’s leader in overall stroke average this season with a 70.22 mark, Cross is coming off of a 13th-place finish at the Hayt Invitational — the third time this season that he’s been the Vols’ highest finisher. Cross has carded 17 of 18 counting rounds this season and recorded two top-10 finishes.

Bryce Lewis

Lewis is Tennessee’s leader in spring stroke average with a 69.92 mark and has shot 12 rounds par or better this season. Lewis has finished in the top-25 during three of the Vols’ four spring tournaments.

Jake Hall

After a one-tournament absence from Tennessee’s lineup, Hall Returns for the Mason Rudolph Championship. Hall has carded a team-high 17 rounds par or better this season and has posted a 71.11 Stoke average this spring.

Tyler Johnson

Johnson has shot 15.5 of 18 rounds for better this season with a pair of top-10 finishes. The redshirt senior has been Tennessee’s third-highest finisher in four straight tournaments and is coming off a top-25 finish at the Hayt. Johnson boasts a season-long stroke average of 70.94.

Hunter Wolcott

Wolcott is coming off his best finish of the season, tying for 13th place at the Hayt Invitational — tied for Tennessee’s top finisher. Wolcott finished strong by shooting 5-under in the final round. The redshirt senior now has 22 career top-25 finishes.

Laurent Desmarchais

Desmarchais is set to compete in his fourth tournament of the spring, coming off a 58th-place finish atv the Hayt Invitational. Prior to that, Desmarchais recorded his best finish as a Vol at the National Invitational Tournament, competing as an individual and tying for 39th place.
