Lakers’ Patrick Beverley suspended 3 games by NBA for shoving Suns’ Deandre Ayton

The NBA has suspended Lakers guard Patrick Beverley for three games for shoving Suns center Deandre Ayton to the floor in Tuesday’s game, the league announced Thursday. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Beverley was assessed a technical foul and ejected late in the fourth quarter in Los Angeles’ 115-105 loss.
  • The NBA said the suspension “was based in part on Beverley’s history of unsportsmanlike acts.”
  • Beverley has been suspended without pay.

What happened against the Suns?

With 3:55 remaining in the fourth quarter, Devin Booker was called for a shooting foul on Austin Reaves and stood over the Lakers swingman while he was on the floor. Then, Ayton joined Booker in standing over Reaves. Beverley ran over and shoved Ayton with his left shoulder when Ayton wasn’t looking.

After a video review, Booker was given a flagrant foul 1, Beverley was assessed a technical foul and ejected and Ayton received a technical foul.

Beverley said after the game that he wanted to stand up for Reaves with two opponents standing over him on the court.

Which games will Beverley miss?

Beverley will begin serving his suspension on Friday against the Spurs in San Antonio. He will also miss Saturday’s game against the Spurs and Monday’s game hosting the Indiana Pacers.
