Italy, the Women’s golf is now in great growth

A growing and ever-expanding movement, even a winning one. From amateurs to projectiles, Women’s golf is reaping the Rewards of work that started a long time ago. With the Italian Golf Federation, led by Franco Chimenti, who has always invested in the Women’s sector.

From Lucrezia Colombotto Rosso – who won the Terre Blanche Ladies Open in France in the first 2022 race on LET Access – to Benedetta Moresco, fourth (best score obtained by an Italian in the three editions played) at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur (where she did her debut in the competition also Carolina Melgrati).

These are just the latest results from the “green” sector, which is convinced and is also confirmed by the results obtained, among others, by Giulia Molinaro (third last year in a Major, at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship), Virginia Elena Carta ( who came close to Qualifying on the LPGA Tour and today is a certainty on LET after a super Amateur career) and Roberta Liti (who recently led the IOA Championship on the Epson Tour).

Without forgetting a nursery that amazes at all levels (the latest success was by Alessandra Fanali in California in the Silverado Showdown, a US College race). And who, in 2022, at the first international competition, found the feat at the Portuguese International Ladies Amateur thanks to Francesca Fiorellini (who in 2021 was among the Architects of the European triumph at the PING Junior Solheim Cup and of the Continental Europe team at Junior Vagliano Trophy).

And this, also thanks to the Technical Sector made available to the FIG – with Matteo Delpodio, Technical Director, Massimo Scarpa, Technical Commissioner of the Male and Female Professional National Teams, Diana Luna, Team Manager of the Professional Women’s National Team, Roberto Zappa , Technical Commissioner of the National Amateur Women’s Team, Anna Roscio, Team Manager of the National Amateur Women’s Team – avant-garde and envied even by the best Realities in the world.

It is therefore not surprising that novice golfers in 2021, compared to 2020, recorded a growth of 101.25%. Towards the Ryder Cup, which in 2023 and for the first time in its history will be played in Italy, at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club, the “Golf è Donna” project is also growing.

And it is precisely in the wake of these results that Colombotto Rosso and Benedetta Moresco recount the emotions experienced in this period. “My first success on LET Access – the words of Colombotto Rosso – represented a unique emotion.

He arrived in front of my family and my technical staff with whom I shared this Joy. I never stopped believing it. 2021 was special, characterized by an arm injury that affected my performance. I fulfilled my dream of competing in the Olympics (in Tokyo she represented the Italy of Women’s golf together with Molinaro, ed), but never played with confidence for fear of getting hurt again.

And this is a new beginning, I started from scratch and also focused a lot on mental preparation. The goal of 2022 is to regain a full ‘card’ on the LET. I am happy for the growth of the Women’s movement, due to the great work of the Italian Golf Federation, which has never left us alone.

In my case, I want to thank Diana Luna that she is always close to me. And she has always been my Idol and working alongside her is an Honor ”Satisfied (to say the least) also Benedetta Moresco, returning from a great performance in the US at the Women’s Masters.

“It was a Fantastic tournament, which went really well. I finished the first round in the lead and in the second I encountered some difficulties also due to bad weather. Despite everything, I remained calm and the last lap in Augusta represented a unique emotion that I will always carry within me.

I enjoyed this experience to the fullest, giving it my all. Playing on a course, the Augusta National, which represents the history of golf, was something indescribable. My thanks go to the Italian Golf Federation for the support that never fails us, also thanks to a Fantastic technical staff.

With me in the US there was Coach Alex Senoner who was really crazy “One of his next goals is to play on the main American circuits.” In the summer – the announcement of the Moresco – I will play the Qualifying Schools to try to take the card on the LPGA Tour or on the Epson Tour. I will turn pro in 2023 and finish my university career ”
