Final Tune-Up for Men’s Golf at Wofford Invitational

Cullowhee, NC Western Carolina men’s golf returns to action in its final tune-up event ahead of the Southern Conference Men’s Golf Championship, traveling to Spartanburg, SC, for the Wofford Invitational Hosted at the par-72, 6,712-yard Country Club of Spartanburg.

The 54-hole tournament will be played over two days on April 11-12. Monday’s schedule includes 36 holes of continuous play beginning with set tee times at 7:40 am, with Tuesday’s final round slated for tee times at 8 am Live scoring of each round is available online through GolfStat with a link at CatamountSporsts.com.

In addition to the Catamounts and tournament-host Terriers, the 18-team field includes Golfers from fellow SoCon foes Mercer and Samford. Rounding out the field are competitors from Appalachian State, Charleston Southern, Elon, Francis Marion, Gardner-Webb, George Washington, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Presbyterian, Radford, USC Aiken, USC Upstate, UNC Wilmington, and Winthrop.

“It’s good to be back on a track we know with a good-looking forecast,” said the WCU head Coach Tim Eckberg. “We learned a lot at Chambers Bay – and with a quick turnaround, it’s just been about working on the little things leading up to this event.”

Western Carolina will field a very similar scoring five for the Wofford Invitational, led by freshman Jake Peacock. He’ll be flanked by junior Magnus Pedersen at the No. 2 and senior Louis Theys as the third seed. Rounding out WCU’s scoring five are sophomore Presten Richardson and senior Tumi Kúld.

WCU finished tied for second with the host Wofford at last year’s event, shooting a 5-under par 859 to tie for the runner-up position. Two returning Catamounts – Richardson and Pedersen – posted top 10 finishes at last year’s tournament, placing in a tie for second and fifth, respectively.

Eckberg added, “With our final tune-up before the conference, it’s a good time to put it all together and post some numbers. This week proved big for the last year, finishing tied for second and springboarding us into SoCon. the same thing this week. “
