To win the NCAA title all eyes will be on their star goalie Senior Dryden McKay. McKay said he sees the NCAA title game as a defining moment for him. The two-time Hobey Baker Award finalist McKay says NHL teams haven’t pursued him due to his size. This is a chance to show the NHL what his opponents already know. He’s one of the best goalies in the NCAA and deserves a shot at professional hockey.

Denver Vs. Minnesota State Hockey Preview

The Pioneers were forced into overtime Thursday night after Thomas Bordeleau gave Michigan the game-tying goal. Both fought valiantly in overtime but Savoie scored the game-winning goal with the assistance of Brink’s blocked shot at goal. Cameron Wright and Brett Stapley also scored goals in the Pioneer victory. Denver played with exceptional discipline playing the entire game without a single penalty. When asked about playing without penalties Denver head coach David Carle said,

“I did think discipline has been an issue of ours throughout the season at times. And it was the best it’s been all year in the biggest moment, ”

“We didn’t give the refs any opportunities to make a call on us. It’s hard to be that difficult to play against without the puck and not take a penalty. So, for that, I’m really proud of our players. ”

Denver’s star Bobby Brink only had an assist in the semifinal matchup. So look for an NHL-worthy performance in the title game. To win the NCAA title Brink will need to lead with Cole Guttman and Savoie offensively. They will face one of the NCAA’s best goalies, Dryden McKay, with 34 career shutouts.

Fighting For Their First Title

After last year’s Frozen Four semifinal loss against St. Cloud, the Mavericks are in their first NCAA title game. When asked how it felt to advance to the title game this year Mavericks head coach Mike Hastings said,

“The last Frozen Four didn’t end the way we wanted it to. We’ve been on a journey ever since to try and get back here, ”

. “So now we want to try and take advantage of the opportunity that these guys have earned.”

After being down 1-0 in the first period Benton Maass tied the game at 12:38 in the second period. After that, the Mavericks never looked back. Reggie Lutz, Ondrej Pavel, David Silye, and Brendan Furry scored goals in the Pioneer’s routing of the Gophers. The Gophers went with an empty net in the third period after Silye made the game 4-1. But the extra man wasn’t enough to keep the puck away from Furry scoring the 5th Pioneer goal.
