Bobcats baseball gets road win at St. Clairsville
ST. CLAIRSVILLE – Visiting Cambridge High collected a 7-2 road victory over St. Clairsville in Buckeye 8 Conference baseball action at Memorial Park on Friday evening.
The Bobcats exploded with a huge seven run second inning to grab control and coast home to the win.
Caleb Campbell earned the win on the mound for the Bobcats, the righthander lasted seven innings, allowing eight hits and two runs while striking out one.
CHS racked up eight hits with Angelo Rocco banging out a pair of singles with two RBIs, while Caden Moore also picked up a pair of base hits for the winners.
Tusky Valley 15 Buckeye Trail 4
OLD WASHINGTON – Visiting Tusky Valley High cooled off a red-hot Buckeye Trail squad on Friday with a 15-4 Inter-Valley Conference victory.
Garrett Burga took the loss on the mound for Trail (6-2), working three innings with five Ks and five walks.
Buckeye Trail’s offense was led by Isaac Beaver with a single that plated a pair of RBIs, while Cale Gazda, Burga, and Cannon Clum each recorded a base hit in the loss.
New Philadelphia 4, Meadowbrook 3
NEW PHILADELPHIA – Meadowbrook High dropped its second straight game on Friday with a tough 4-3 setback to host New Philadelphia in non-league baseball action.
Brady McManaway took the loss on the mound for the Colts who slip to 4-3 on the season, working three innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out three.
Easton Eibel and Aiden Reis lead the Meadowbrook six hit attack with a pair of singles each, while Josh Hupp and McManaway each collected base hits.
Carter Vandall went six strong innings, allowing five hits while striking out five and Gaven Blake slammed the door with a quick 1-2-3 for the save for New Philadelphia.
Leading the Quakers offense was Billman Brenton as he went 3 for 3 with two doubles, Blake added two hits.
SOFTBALL
Tusky Valley 9, Buckeye Trail 2
OLD WASHINGTON – A slow start from host Buckeye Trail proved costly in a 9-2 Inter-Valley Conference softball loss to Tusky Valley on Friday evening.
The visiting Lady Trojans jumped out to a 9-0 lead after three innings with the help of some costly errors by the host Lady Warriors, and would hold of for the IVC road victory.
“We seem to be in a defensive slump right now that is hurting us,” Buckeye Trail first-year head coach Devani Roe offered. “We’ve been falling behind due to our mistakes and then can’t recover … just like tonight.”
“After we got behind tonight, we settled down and played pretty well,” Roe continued. “We just did not have the firepower offensively to mount that big a comeback. But we will get to work on getting our defense locked in and ready to do a better job.”

DOVER – Visiting Cambridge High suffered a tough 4-1 setback to Dover on Friday in boys tennis action on Thursday evening.
With the loss, the Bobcats slip to the .500 mark on the season at 3-3.

SOFTBALL

Cambridge High had the offense in high gear on Thursday evening to collect a clean sweep over visiting St. Clairsville by scores of 18-17 in an eight inning affair in game one, followed by a 19-2 romp in game two at Cambridge City Park.
In the game one victory, the Lady Bobcats banged out 23 hits with Abby Mann leading the way with a triple, three doubles and five RBIs. Ryleigh Goodman and Kendall Kenworthy each collected three singles, while Paris Winston doubled with a pair of base hits. Ava Byerly chipped in with two singles, two RBIs, with Presley Dodd racking up three singles and three RBIs.
Mann also picked up the pitching win to improve to 4-1 on the season, finishing with nine punch-outs.
Morgan Bradison got plenty of run support in game two to record the pitching win in a five-inning outing. Bradison improved to 3-0 with the victory, finishing with four Ks.
Kenworthy belted a triple, two singles with five RBIs to lead the CHS second game offensive attack, while Joynia Conrad finished with three singles, four RBIs. Dodd added a double, single with three RBIs, Byerly singled twice with an RBI and Goodman ripped a double that plated a pair of runs.
Cambridge improves to a sparkling 7-1 on the season with the twinbill sweep.
Tri-Valley 6, Meadowbrook 4 (8 inn.)
BYESVILLE – The visiting Lady Scotties (6-3, 4-2) plated a run in the top of the seventh to force extra innings and scored twice in the eighth to pick up a league road win.
Reagan Smith and Gabby French had one-out singles to set up the seventh, and Belle Baughman singled home Smith with two outs to tie it at 4.
Falon Wolford ripped a triple to start the eighth and scored the go-ahead run when Kierra Joseph’s line drive to left field was misplayed. Alyssa Ashcraft drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs to bring home Murphy for an insurance run.
Murphy threw the final five innings to earn the win in relief. She had six strikeouts and two walks and allowed three hits.
Joseph also homered, Wolford went 4-for-5 with a double, Caity Journey chipped in three hits with an RBI and Keyona Murphy had two hits for the winners.
John Glenn 15, Coshocton 0 (5 inn.):
COSHOCTON – John Glenn used a six-run second, highlighted by Sydney Johnson’s two-run single, as they stayed perfect in MVL play.
Alivia Boothe had three hits, including a double, and scored three times to lead John Glenn (9-1, 7-0 MVL); Johnson also doubled and scored three runs, Abby Buchtel added two singles and two RBIs, Brynna Wolford and Arabella Birkhimer each had two hits and Sarah Wayne knocked in three runs.
Hannah Bendle threw a one-hitter with eight strikeouts to earn the win in the circle.
Olivia Lee suffered the loss, allowing nine runs on 11 hits in three innings and Myrakle Johnson had the lone hit for the Redskins.
BASEBALL
John Glenn 7, Coshocton 0
COSHOCTON – Senior Avery Parmer’s two-run single sparked a five-run seventh inning to help the Muskies pick up an MVL road win at Lake Park on Thursday evening.
Colin Campbell added a RBI double, Gunnar Fox had a RBI groundout and Aydan Thompson brought home a run with a sac fly in the seventh.
Campbell scored on a two-out passed ball in the second and Parmer added a RBI single with two outs in the fifth to round out the John Glenn (6-2, 5-1 MVL) scoring.
Roman Gallitz fanned five and allowed four hits in 5 2/3 innings for the victory, Colt Emerson had two strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings of relief for the save, Parmer collected three hits and Campbell doubled and singled.
Coby Moore took the loss, giving up five runs on five hits with five walks and three strikeouts in six innings and Zach Jennings had two hits for Coshocton (3-3, 3-2).
TRACK & FIELD
John Glenn picks up clean sweep at Shenandoah Quad
John Glenn’s boys team tallied 146 points and the girls 130 in a meet with host Shenandoah, River and Beallsville.
Kara Fields in the 100 (13.58) and 100 hurdles (16.03), Jessica Church in the 200 (30.01) and 400 (1: 05.62), Chelsea Sotherden in the shot (35-7 1/2) and discus (99-2 ), Emma Dolan in the 300 hurdles (53.77), the 4×200 of Marina Nicolozakes, Dolan, Angela Kumler and Church (1: 56.72), the 4×400 of Kate Wilson, Becca Spohn, Rosemary Thompson and Skylynne McCloud (5:02), the 4×800 of Spohn, Alivia Lake, Kylynn Barr and Grace Lawrence (11:55), Rayna Taylor in the high jump (4-8) and Brayden Snider in the pole vault (11-9) were winners for the Muskie girls.
Cameron House won the 400 (55.96) and long jump (16-8), Caiden Lake took first in the 800 (2: 19.62), Braylon Buchanan placed first in the 1,600 (5:18), Cash Smith captured the 100 hurdles ( 17.83), Nick Biddinger took first in the high jump (5-4), Chris Russell won the pole vault (12-0) and Jake Morris placed first in the shot (39-2) for the Muskie boys.
The John Glenn boys also swept the relays with Asa Kridelbaugh, Riley West, Stefan Israel and Chase Stephen in the 4×100 (46.73); Kridelbaugh, Elijah Kuklica, Israel and Stephen in the 4×200 (1: 36.5), Evan Rector, Ryder Rock, Gavin Tuttle and Adan Duran in the 4×400 (4: 14.9) and Ian Davis, Buchanan, House and Lake in the 4×800 (9 : 48).
LACROSSE
John Glenn 16, Linsly 3
NEW CONCORD – Host John Glenn enjoyed a high scoring first quarter to jump out to a 6-1 lead over visiting Linsly on Thursday in high school lacrosse action.
The Muskies would add three more scores in the second quarter for a 9-1 halftime lead. The Muskies would continue to roll in the second half to post a final score of 16-3 to avenge the 12-4 loss to the Cadets in 2021.
John Glenn’s total of 18 goals set a new record for most in a single game in school history. A total of eight Muskies scored goals led by Ethan Haney with five along with two assists, Evan Haney was right behind with four goals, one assist. Clay Hanna chipped in with two scores and a total of five assists, while Logan Williams tallied one goal with three helpers.
Scoring one goal each were Liberty Pennington, Garrett Buchanan, Aiden Gamble and Cannon Fox. Levi Kinnan was 18-for-21 in face-off wins. JG goalie Joseph Hunt finished his night’s work with five saves.
With the win, John Glenn improves to 4-2 on the season.
