Area high school baseball teams still stocked with youth

Last year was a first inning of sorts for many area varsity baseball players given the lost season of 2020.

Now that they’ve batted around, look for yesterday’s youngsters to take another step up this season.

Bloomington North and Eastern Greene, in particular, leaned on freshmen, sophomores and other first year players in 2021. Each has just a couple of seniors this year.

“The nice thing is, they’re a year older,” North coach Richard Hurt said. “They’re getting bigger and strong. With COVID, we had a lot of kids who hadn’t played varsity baseball before, so it was a learning year for us.”

South and Edgewood both lost key senior players to graduation, but have plenty of pieces back.
