Archery State Champions Shady Spring honored with Commission proclamation

BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Raleigh County Commission assembled Tuesday morning for their regular meeting, during which the 2022 Shady Spring High School Archery team was officially recognized as the 2022 State Archery Champions through a commission proclamation.

Shooting a score of 3319, Shady Spring was able to claim the number one spot in West Virginia Division of Natural Resources’ Archery in the Schools state tournament, which was held on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.

Over 600 students participated in the competition, in which Herbert Hoover High and John Marshall High earned the number two and three positions behind Shady Spring.

Shady Spring Middle School also had quite the season, qualifying for Nationals and falling short of 3rd place by only 4 points.

Following the reading aloud of the proclamation, the team members were called to the front of the room to be awarded commemorative plaques by the commission, where a photo was also taken.

“On behalf of the Raleigh County Commission, congratulations,” said Commission President Dave Tolliver addressing the team members directly. “Any time you win a state championship it’s something to be very proud of.”

The proclamation honoring the Shady Spring High School 2022 state of West Virginia Archery Champions May 17, 2022 was read aloud by Raleigh County Administrator Jay Quesenberry as follows,

WHEREAS, the hard work, dedication, sportsmanship, talent, and exceptional team chemistry, of the 2022 Shady Spring High School Archery team enabled these student athletes to be Champions of the West Virginia State Archery Tournament;

WHEREAS, The team has brought great honor, not only to themselves, but also to their school, their families, and our communities; and

WHEREAS, Head Archery Coach William York and the entire coaching and support staff, team members, parents, administration, faculty, and student body at Shady Spring High School were integral in guiding the team through the 2022 season through their unwavering support;

NOW, THEREFORE, We the Raleigh County Commission; Dave Tolliver, Commission Chair; Linda K. Epling, Commissioner; and Gregory A Duckworth; Commissioner do hereby recognize and heartily congratulate the Shady Spring High School Tigers Archery team on their outstanding achievement;

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, We, Dave Tolliver, Linda K Epling, and Gregory A Duckworth, have hereunto set our hands and caused to be affixed the great seal of Raleigh County, West Virginia on this 17th day of May 2022, congratulations! ”
