ADM girls basketball gets ready for a new season, volleyball earns conference honors

The ADM girls basketball team is getting ready for the season.

Head Coach Jacob Cleveland said practice has been going well so far, with the girls bringing lots of energy and the Seniors providing good leadership.

“We have four freshmen that have picked up stuff pretty quickly, so a lot of good energy and positivity as we go into the season,” Cleveland said.

Cleveland said senior Nicole Storck leads things at practice, such as stretching, while senior Lauren Case breaks things down at the end to finish things off on a positive note, helping the freshmen assimilate onto the team.

The Tigers also return three starters from last season, which Cleveland said is a huge advantage for ADM, as not many teams in the conference return so many.

“I think that’ll be very helpful with continuity and knowing what they need to do,” Cleveland said.

He added that junior Cameran Smith is going to switch to the primary point guard, which he said will take some adapting. However, they said Smith will be ready for it.

ADM's Cameran Smith looks to go around DCG's Vanessa Bickford during a game on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021, in Grimes.

After struggling to shoot the ball last season, Cleveland said the big thing for the Tigers is improving on their shooting this season.

“Last year we shot about 36% from the field and 22% from three, and that’s just not going to cut it,” Cleveland said. “So our girls did spend some time in the gym, and if we can kinda figure that stuff out, I think we’re gonna be successful.”
