2022 Masters Fantasy golf rankings, Picks: Back Justin Thomas and fade Jon Rahm at Augusta National

As always, there’s no shortage of story lines as the 2022 Masters approaches. The first major of the year begins Thursday, April 7 at Augusta National Golf Club, and Jon Rahm is no longer the world’s No. 1 player. Scottie Scheffler ended the Spaniard’s eight-month run with an amazing six-week tear that culminated with a win at the WGC Match Play. Rory McIlroy is seeking the final piece to his career grand slam, Hideki Matsuyama will try to defend his Masters title, and Tiger Woods could return. Who can you trust in your 2022 Masters Fantasy golf rankings and which 2022 Masters Sleepers exist?

Can Matsuyama, who has two victories already this season but is dealing with a back injury, pull off a shocker as part of your 2022 Masters Fantasy Golf Picks? Before you consider any Fantasy golf rankings or make any bets on the Masters 2022, be sure you check out the Fantasy golf projections from Fantasy expert Riley Gates at SportsLine.

Gates is a Writer for 247Sports and has covered a range of sports for nearly five years. He has followed golf closely for much longer and has a profound knowledge of the sport. He also knows what it takes to win, on the course and in Fantasy sports.

At this year’s Valspar Championship, seven of his picks finished in the top 12. They included Sam Burns, who claimed the title at Innisbrook for the second straight year. “I don’t understand why Burns has such high odds,” Gates told SportsLine before the event. “Burns has back-to-back top-15 finishes and appears to have snapped out of his slump.” The 25-year-old went out and shot 17 under, then prevailed in a playoff for his third career Victory.

Gates has been on fire all season. Nine of his top 10 Picks finished in the top 20 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and at the Honda Classic, eight of his Picks finished in the top 16. The expert also was on the money at Phoenix, where his five top selections all ended up in the top 10. He nailed his Picks at the Sentry, with four of his top seven Picks posting top-five finishes, and he Duplicated that at the Hero World Challenge. Anyone who has followed Gates is way up.

Now, Gates has ranked his top 2022 Masters Golfers. You can only see them here.

2022 Masters Fantasy Golf Picks

Gates is expecting a breakthrough from Justin Thomas at any time. The 28-year-old has finished in the top 10 five times this year, including a tie for third at the Valspar Championship in mid-March. He is also second on tour in scoring average (69,617) and third in strokes gained tee-to-green. Thomas has played well at Augusta, finishing lower than 22nd in his past five Appearances, and was fourth in the 2020 tournament.

The Fantasy expert is fading Jon Rahm for the Masters. The 27-year-old has just one Victory since August 2020, and while he remains elite from tee to green, his putting has become a major concern. He is 203rd on tour in one-putt percentage (35.0), 139th in strokes gained putting and averages 29.8 putts per round (201st). That problem was on display at the Match Play, where a missed nine-footer on the 18th hole cost him the match in the Round of 16. Brooks Koepka drained a dramatic putt on the first playoff hole to end it.

How to set 2022 Masters Fantasy golf rankings

For the 2022 Masters at Augusta National, the Fantasy expert is Backing an epic long shot. Gates says this golfer, who will be trying to atone for a missed cut at Augusta last year, “seems to always be in the mix.” You can only see who it is at SportsLine.
